Contact Improvisation (CI) is a postmodern dance practice born in the United States in 1972, at the intersection of contemporary dance, aikido, and somatic practices. It explores movement through touch, weight sharing, and body awareness, in a spirit of improvisation, play, and shared research.
Valentyn is a somatic therapist, movement artist, and performance poet, born in Ukraine and based in Canada. His approach integrates polyvagal theory, deep tissue massage, and a poetic listening to the body in connection with the present moment.
A facilitator at numerous festivals across Europe and Asia, he cultivates a vision of CI grounded in introspection, integrity, sensitivity, and mutual care. After spending over seven years in Canada studying cinema and creating acclaimed independent films, he now devotes his practice to the alliance of movement, speech, and embodied consciousness.
